Subscribers’ Perception of the Quality of Service (QoS) of the Global System for Mobile Services in Ibadan, Nigeria

Abstract


This paper investigate the perception of users on the quality of service (QoS) provided by the GSM network serviceoperators and the difficulties subscribers encounter during the course of accessing the network service as they affect theirsocial and economic life in Ibadan, Nigeria. A questionnaire titled “User Perception of the Quality of Service of GSMService Providers In Ibadan, Nigeria” was designed to solicit responses from users. Responses are presented usingdescriptive statistics and data alaysed using inferential statistics (chi square). Findings from the research and analysis of datafrom the questionnaire showed that a significant percentage of the respondents are not satisfied with the Quality of Service(QoS) provided by the network operators. Mobile services users experience epileptic services, call drops, low voice callquality, poor interconnectivity, high billing on services and poor reception on network to network service problems.Recommendations were made based on these findings.Keywords: QoS, GSM, Mobile Phones, Ibadan, Nigeria,
