Challenges of Ethics and Accountability in Nigerian Civil Service

Abstract


Ethics and accountability remains the major challenges confronting the Nigerian Civil Service. Rules and regulations are no longer observed in the civil and public service. This may be perhaps as a result of the kind of people recruit into the civil and public service and also the personality that brought to be employed. The Nigerian civil and public service has lost its image and productivity as many staffs comes to work late and close early not minding whether government losses or not but to get their salary at the end of the mouth these attitude has seriously attached the Nigerian civil service system. It is in the light of the above, these paper set out to examine the problems constituting. The Nigerian Civil Service system and also suggest some way forward that could help rebuilt the system such like good reforms in the civil service and sound economic foundation which could produce a high productivity capacity and enable citizens to sufficiently meet their welfare. Any success of any nations depends on selfless leadership. For us to achieve this in the Nigerian Civil Service selfless leadership must be adopted. Selfless leadership remains the major challenges in the Nigerian Civil Service since it creation.
