Determination of Genetic Diversity in Phlebotomus papatasi (Diptera: Psychodidae) Population by mtDNA COI Gene Sequences

Sahin Toprak, Arif Parmaksiz, Abdullah Akar

Abstract

In this study, genetic diversity of Phlebotomus papatasi population was detected based on mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (mtDNA COI) gene sequences. Six haplotypes and six polymorphic sites were detected in totally 17 individuals. The average haplotype diversity (h) and nucleotide diversity (π) were calculated 0.893 and 0.0051 respectively. The result of Neutrality test as statistically was insignificant (p>0.05). The results obtained by this study performed firstly for P. papatasi species. Determined haplotypes for mtDNA COI gene region are new results for literature, in terms of genetic diversity of this species is an important data set.
