Applications of Molybdenum Disilicide as Industrial High Temperature Material
Abstract
In this study, analysis of physical and mechanical properties of MoSi2 were performed, its fabrication techniques and common industrial applications were also reviewed. MoSi2 based materials are used as structural elements in oxygen-rich atmospheres especially in applications under thermo-mechanical loads for their strength properties and relative low density against agressive conditions at high temperatures. Improvements in low temperature fracture toughness and high temperature creep resistance are still the most challenging tasks. Main fabrication techniques of the material are; mechanical alloying, combustion synthesis, HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) and slip casting. These techniques are selected and applied proper to material’s field of use.
