Abstract

The most effective method for preventing floods is to take measures that will not disrupt the natural balance between soil, water and plant in the water collection area. At the beginning of the measures to prevent the deterioration of this natural equilibrium is plantation the area with suitable plants. Turkey is one of the countries most negative affected by the global climate change. 54% of forest areas, 59% of agricultural areas, 64% of pastures, moderate and severe erosion are present. Erosion leads to deterioration of ecological balance, increase the floods, shortening the life of the dam, weakening of vegetation and decreasing water yield and quality. Therefore, measures should be taken with different approaches and methods. are Afforestation is the most common plantation application to preventation of erosion and flood. In addition to afforestation, erosion and floods can be minimized by equipping the risky area with suitable natural plant species. In this study, forty plant species determined which have the potential to prevent erosion and floods in Elazığ and their advantages were discussed, evaluated and emphasized.
