A Review on Phytochemical Investigation on the Stem Bark of Croton Macrostachyus

Bizuayehu Zinaye

Abstract

The Croton macrostachyus is used for the treatment of malaria, venereal diseases, cough, diabetes, constipation, tape worms and hepatitis. The dichloromethane extract of the stem bark of Croton macrostachyus was afforded two Terpenoids: the compound with full structure which is a triterpenoid and a compound with a partial structure which is a tetratrpenoid. Structural determination was accomplished by means of spectroscopic methods (IR, UV, 1D and 2D NMR).
