The Effect of Adoption of Agricultural Extension Recommendations for Yam Production on Labour Among Resource-Poor Farmers In Cross- River State, Nigeria
Abstract
Labour is one of the factors of production. And it is expected that with increase in adoption, the farmer’s output would increase and, consequently, there would be increases in the quantities of production inputs, and labouris one of such inputs. This study was, therefore, conducted to find out the effect of adoption on labour used for yam production by resource-poor farmers in Cross River State of Nigeria. In conducting the study, 180 resource-poor farmers were randomly selected using stratified random sampling technique. The data collected were analyzed using linear correlation and regression analysis at 5% level. The result of the analysisshowed that adoption has no significant effect on labour. The hypothesisthat there is no significant effect of adoption on labour for yamproduction was accepted, while the alternative hypothesis was rejected. On the basis of the findings made, some recommendations were made.
