Social-Cultural Factors that Hinder Men’s use of Contraceptive Methods: A case study of Micheweni District- North Pemba

Abstract


This article examines various social-cultural that hinder men’s use of contraceptive methods. The study revealed that social cultural factors such as Islamic religion: its teaching and practices, the importance of having many children, the perceived side-effects, fishing activities and the availability of sea food such as fish and unwillgness to use the available methods of contraception which was caused by lack of knowledge or ignorance were the major factors that hinder men’s use of contraceptive methods. This study has established that a condom is the mostly known and used method of contraception by both spouses. However it’s prohibited by married couples in all religions.
