Abstract

In this study, AA 2014, pre-alloy powder has been produced by the method of gas atomization which is one of the powder metallurgy production methods at vertical gas atomization unit. Atomization studies has been done under argon atmosphere and mannesman nozzle system and also between 5-30 bars as the value of gas pressure has been done during the atomization and liquid metal temperature  values have  been optimized by being used different temperatures values between 750-810 C in terms of powder features and characterization. The powders being produced have been classified as (<53µm) – 3360 µm with the sieve analysis and then the avarage powder size has been found as 90.66 µm with the analysis of powder. Powders, having spherical shape have turned into tear like and lath shape by the increased temperatures of powders with the SEM micro structure examinations. And also powder size and dispersion have been examined by the EDS analysis. The satellite formation has been found by the help of little grain sticking on the big grain. Oxidation at powders has been observed even if they are in low levels.
