A Study to Determine the Misconceptions in the Field of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract

Artificial intelligence is a study of artificial systems aimed at the application area in humans examining the mental functions related to intelligence with the help of computer models by combining these rules and information bases. Objectives of the work in the field of artificial intelligence in general; with the help of computer models to try to understand the functions of the human brain, to investigate the mental capabilities of people, information gain, applied in making the learning and innovation strategy,   methods and techniques, to improve the human / computer interfaces to facilitate people's computer use, to gather information system in a particular area of expertise in information, to improve the overall information systems will play an important role in the establishment of the future information society, to develop job aids and intelligent robotics teams, to make use of research assistants to develop scientific research and inventions. However, to clarify the exact artificial intelligence and the studies in the field of artificial intelligence, need to understand some important concepts. This study is based on the data from surveys that have been applied to 56 students that had 'Artificial Intelligence' elective course in Suleyman Demirel University Faculty of Technical Education Department of Electronics and Computer Education, Computer Systems and Computer and Control Teaching Education. The aim of the study, by taking this course, students are acquiring knowledge about the artificial intelligence field, artificial intelligence issues they face as a constant, leading to confusion among a lot of meaning to ‘intelligence, intelligent, mental, smart' is to identify the misconceptions between the concepts. To this end, students were administered a questionnaire consisting of 11 questions. Analyzes applied on examining statistical calculations required by the applied questionnaires. This study also identified the next step will be to eliminate the misconceptions.
