Abstract

Turkey Earthquake Codes (TEC 2007: Turkish Earthquake Code-2007, TBEC 2018: Turkish Building Earthquake Code-2018) were compared in terms of the evaluation of the seismic performance of reinforced concrete columns. A theoretical and experimental study has been carried out. For this purpose, four column specimens were constructed. Firstly, these specimens were analyzed by the XTRACT reinforced concrete section analysis program and displacement-based loading path were generated. In accordance with the displacement loading path, these specimens were subjected to constant axial load and increasing reversed cyclic lateral loads. Lateral force-displacement and moment-curvature curves of the specimens were obtained from the test results. As stated in Seismic Codes; damage limits and damage states have been determined depending on the plastic rotating capacity, concrete and steel strains. The results obtained from theoretical and experimental studies were found to be generally compatible. Accordingly, TBEC 2018 gives conservative deformation limits rather than TEC 2007.
