A Comparative Analysis of Control Algorithms Used for Shunt Active Power Filter with PSIM
Abstract
Nonlinear loads connected to the grids cause harmonics and power quality problems. In this study, it is aimed to eliminate harmonics drawn from the source by nonlinear loads using shunt active power filter (SAPF), reactive power compensation, balance of load currents and DC bus voltage regulation. In the study, instantaneous reactive power method (PQ), synchronous reference frame (SRF) method and improved PQ method are compared from control methods used in SAPF. Simulation studies were tested using PSIM software and simulation results were compared. When the instantaneous reactive power method is used, the harmonics of the source current of 23.06%is reduced to 2.5%. When the improved PQ method is used, harmonics of the source current of reduced to 4.03%.When the SRF method is used, harmonic of the source current of reduced to 1.79%. The simulation results show that the source current is sinüsoidal and the total harmonic distortion (THD) limit value proposed by the IEEE 519-2014 standard is lower than %5 [1]. Also, it has been found that the results obtained by using the SRF control method are more successful in reducing the harmonics according to the instantaneous reactive power method and the results obtained from the improved PQ method.
