The Use of Heterotic Effects for the Improvement of Some Fiber Technological Properties of New Cotton Varieties in Diyarbakir Conditions

Abstract


The study was carried out in the breeding program of the Dicle University Faculty of Agriculture Field Crops Department in order to improve certain properties of BA-440, Carisma, ADN-712, BIR-949 and ST-498 cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) heterotopic effects of the F1 genetic traits which were formed by hybridization with Bahar-82, Giza-45 and Giza-75 (Gossypium barbadense L.) genotypes which were superior. In the study, it was determined that there was significant genetic variation in fiber length, fiber fineness, fiber strength and short fiber index traits examined in the populated population. In the study, it has been determined that the fiber length property is governed by dominance gene effect, while fiber fineness and fiber strength properties are governed by entermedier gene effect. ADN-712 x Giza-75, Carisma x Bahar-82, Carisma x Giza-45, Carisma x Giza-75, ST-498 x Bahar-82, ST-498 x Giza-45, ST-498 x Giza-75 were determined to be promising hybrid combinations to improve fiber length trait. BİR-949 x Bahar-82, BİR-949 x Giza-45, Carisma x Bahar-82, Carisma x Giza-45, ST-498 x Bahar-82 were determined to be promising hybrid combinations to improve fiber fineness trait. BA-440 x Bahar-82, BA-440 x Giza-45, BA-440 x Giza-75, BİR-949 x Bahar-82, BİR-949 x Giza-45, BİR-949 x Giza-75, ST-498 x Bahar-82, ST-498 x Giza-45, ST-498 x Giza-75 were determined to be promising hybrid combinations to improve fiber strength trait. ADN-712 x Giza-75, BA-440 x Giza-75, BİR-949 x Giza-45, BİR-949 x Giza-75, Carisma x Giza-45, Carisma x Giza-75, ST-498 x Bahar-82, ST-498 x Giza-45, ST-498 x Giza-75 were determined to be promising hybrid combinations to improve short fiber index trait.
