Abstract

Increasing energy demand has occured increasing of exploring alternative energy sources day by day. In this study, animal fertilizer was selected as raw material for biogas production from alternative energy sources in some provinces. Firstly, the number of cattle and their manures were determined in Batman, Malatya, Siirt and Gaziantep provinces. Then, biogas potentials were determined and approximately fermentation, extraction and biogas storage tanks were designed with empirical formula. The manure quantities and biogas potential of these provinces were determined for Batman, Malatya, Siirt and Gaziantep as 34920, 90000, 47400, 51300 tons/month and 1152360, 3240000, 17100, 1850000 m3/month biogas respectively. In addition, fermentation tank, extraction tank and biogas storage tank volumes in Batman, Malatya, Siirt and Gaziantep were calculated as 600, 730, 790 and 420 m3 fermentation tank, 34050, 87750, 28500, 60048 m3 extraction tank and 250000, 500000, 4500 and 250000 m3 biogas storage tank, respectively. For these calculations, the monthly electricity energy reserves producted from the biogas were also determined as 5416092, 15228000, 80370 and 8695000 kWh, respectively. It is predicted that these sources will supply the electricity needs of 45134, 126900, 700, 72458 houses in the Batman, Malatya, Siirt and Gaziantep, respectively. These calculations were made only considering cattle manure. However, if considering many other biogas raw materials, it may be inevitable for researchers to move towards this sector in the future.
