Collectives Action Theory and Practice of Public Policy: The Relationship between Public Policy and Collective Action

Nyankomo Marwa

Abstract

Collective action plays a critical role in the theory and practice of public policy. This paper tries to answer the following questions: Why is collective action important to a society and to the economy? What are the various ways in which collective action affects public policy and how public policy affects collective action? Why is collective action problematic, what have groups done to address these problems, and what are the implications (if any) of these actions? In answering these questions, the paper focuses on a broader perspective about the idea of collective action and the various ways in which it may be manifested and some of its exiting nuances.

Keywords: Public Policy, Collective Action, Coordination
