Factors Influencing Rate of Completion of Undergraduate Students in Public Universities in Kenya. A Case of University of Nairobi, Faculty of Education

Abstract


The study investigated factors influencing rate of completion of undergraduate students in public universities in Kenya. A case of University of Nairobi, Faculty of Education. The objective of the study was to determine ways in which student factors influence rate completion of undergraduate students, to examine how Institutional factors influence completion of undergraduate students,to examine the influence of year of admission and year of completion of undergraduate students in public universities in Kenya. The null hypothesis (H01) was tested using Chi square (df=12, Pearson Chi square(χ2)=30.648 and p=0.002 at 0.05 level of significance of which the null hypothesis was rejected.The null hypothesis (H02) was tested using Chi square (df=12, Pearson Chi square(χ2)=25.583 and p=0.012 at 0.05 level of significance. On admission rate where (r=.872, p-value<0.05) was rejected at p<0.05 significance level. Hence there is a positive and strong significant relationship between year of admission and year of completion in institutions of Higher Education. It was concluded that both student factor, institutional factors and admission rate and its influence on the rate of completion of undergraduate students in institutions of Higher Education.
