Abstract


This article focuses on how we can enhance the preparation of our graduate students for future faculty careers. It describes a course in a professional program that highlights the subjective characteristics of the faculty position that go beyond the traditional elements of research, teaching and service. The course looks at the origins of the US education system and its underlying philosophies, and compares the US system to higher education systems abroad.
