Management of Secondary Schools Academic Activities for Effective Performance of Teachers in Ekiti State, Nigeria
Abstract
The study examined the management of secondary schools’ academic activities for effective performance of teachers in Ekiti State. The descriptive survey research design was used for this study. The population for the study consisted of 8,167 teachers in all public secondary schools in Ekiti State. Multistage sampling technique was used to select the sample of 120 secondary school teachers in Ekiti State. The first stage was used to select one local government from each of the senatorial districts in Ekiti State using stratified sampling technique. The second stage involved the selection of four secondary schools in each of the selected local governments using simple random sampling technique. The third stage involved the selection of ten secondary school teachers in each of the selected secondary schools using purposive sampling technique making a total of 120 teachers. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was determined using test-retest method to obtain a reliability coefficient of 0.79.The data collected through the instrument were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics Mean and standard deviation were used to interprete the research questions while Pearson product moment correlation was used to analysed the hypotheses. Recommendations include the following among others that professional development opportunities and training should be channeled towards effective teachers’ performance in the administration of secondary schools academic performance which can be achieved through seminars and workshops.
