Abstract

Education has long been a catalyst for social transformation and inclusive development in India. This study comparatively examines the educational philosophies and reformist contributions of Rabindranath Tagore, Jyotirao Phule, Swami Vivekananda, B.R. Ambedkar, and Madan Mohan Malaviya alongside the contemporary educational model of Achyuta Samanta. Using a qualitative and interdisciplinary approach, the analysis draws on scholarly literature, historical records, institutional documents, and policy sources to explore five dimensions: philosophical foundations, educational innovation, social reform, institutional impact, and legacy. The findings reveal strong continuities between Samanta’s educational praxis and earlier reformist traditions in their commitment to empowerment, social justice, dignity, and holistic human development. However, the KISS model extends these principles through a large-scale institutional framework integrating education, nutrition, healthcare, vocational training, cultural preservation, and community empowerment for marginalized tribal populations. The study argues that the KISS model represents a contemporary and scalable adaptation of India’s educational reform heritage, addressing persistent challenges of poverty, exclusion, and inequality. By positioning Dr. Achyuta Samanta within the broader continuum of Indian educational thought, the study contributes to comparative educational scholarship and underscores the continuing relevance of inclusive education for sustainable development, social justice, and nation-building.
